Jeff Tobes, educator, historian, musician, and dedicated walker, captured our hearts with his enthusiasm. His innovative work on behalf of National History Day in Sonoma County supported Sonoma County students beyond the walls of the classroom. With persistence and persuasion, Jeff opened doors that allowed students to study on college campuses, walk through archives, engage in historical thinking, and consider their academic futures while on long walks with Mr. Tobes. Some of Jeff's ambitious walks with SCHS have taken members through San Francisco and to Fort Ross.

With Jeff's passing in 2015, the SCHS Board of Directors opened the Tobes History Day fund to honor and continue Jeff's work. Proceeds from the annual walk go to the Tobes History Day Fund. Monies from this fund have been donated to help students pay for registration fees and for teachers to attend workshops.
