SONOMA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Call to Order: Jeremy called meeting to order.
Board Members Present: Jeremy Nichols, Jeff Tobes, Lee Torliatt, Sean Bressie, and Kathy Fitzpatrick
Absent: Ron Davis; Diane Smith, Tony Hoskins, Phyllis Schmidt, Guy Smith, John Schubert, and Harry Lapham
Minutes: Minutes of the December meeting were accepted
Treasurer’s Report: Jeff distributed the Income/Expense Statement for 12/13/2007 – 01/09/2008
Membership Report: Sean reported 4 new members had signed up for the Historical Society
Archivist’s Report: Lee announced a future project he would be undertaking – a timeline of events for Sonoma County locales. He is presently looking into software to assist him with his project. More info to come.
Cemeterian Report: Jeremy received a copy of a listing of the Indigent Burial Ledger, Sonoma County Coroners from the Family History Library located in Salt Lake City, Utah. No new names have been identified in the ledger copy.
Grave Markers Project will be nixed due to the cost and overwhelming task of raising $37,000.00 for the markers. Jeremy has a come up with a solution: Bronze plaques (26x24) for $10,000.00. The plaques would be able to list 342 names and would honor all buried at the Chanate cemetery. More info to come.
Journal Report: Lee reported he is currently working on the next issue. He is gathering numerous stories to include in the issue and will also include a collection of Mary Moore stories.
Committee Reports:
Lecture Series: Jeremy went over the tentative lecture schedule for 2008. The next scheduled lecture is Thursday, February 7th at the Sonoma County Museum with Gaye LeBaron and Dan Markwyn as the guest speakers. Mr. Markwyn will give an overview of the Utopian communities while Ms. LeBaron will speak on Fountaingrove.
May lecture will be moved back to Wednesday, April 23rd due to conflicts with the Sonoma County Museum and the guest speakers schedule. The guest speaker will be Mark Wilson, author of “Julia Morgan’s Unique Place in American Architecture”. A book signing will follow the lecture.
August lecture date TBA. Due to the interest of the first lecture, Jeremy has been in contact with Dr Randall Milliken in setting up a special retreat style lecture. Details are still in the works with additional information to come at future meetings.
November lecture is tentatively set for Thursday, November 6th. Jeremy is working on the speaker for this engagement with additional info at a later time.
Jeremy also suggested the need for future discussion regarding the financial aspects of the lecture series. This issue will be addressed at future meetings.
Sean announced he was able to purchase the LCD projector equipment for a bargain (under budget!). Sean will be purchasing any necessary supplies for the equipment.
Heritage Network Meeting: Next meeting is this coming Saturday, January 12th at the Petaluma Museum from 9:30 – 12pm.
New Business:
-No discussion of the spring luncheon was held due to the meetings attendance. Those present were reminded to be thinking of suggestions for the annual awards to be presented at the luncheon.
- Annual “Brainstorming” Retreat has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2008. Kathy moved the retreat location be held at Lapham’s Ranch in Occidental. Jeff second. Kathy will work with Harry on arranging possible lunch be provided by the Union Hotel. More info to follow.
- Sonoma County History Day will be held 02/23/2008 at Santa Rosa High School.
- Annual 25 Mile Walk route details are in the planning stages by Jeff. More details to come at next meeting.
