Call to Order:             Tony called meeting to order.

Board Members Present:      Jeremy Nichols, Tony Hoskins, Jeff Tobes, Phyllis Schmidt,  Lee Torliatt, Guy Smith, Sean Bressie, Ron Davis, John Schubert, Diane Smith, and Kathy Fitzpatrick
Absent: Harry Lapham

Minutes:  Minutes of the August meeting were accepted

Treasurer’s Report: Jeff distributed the Income/Expense Statement for 08/16/07-09/20/07.
Jeff also handed out 2 flyers: upcoming flea market at Helen Lehman School this coming Saturday, 09/22/07 (supports the History Day Students). The scheduled History Day research at the Schultz Library – SSU on 09/25/07 or 09/27/07. If anyone would like to help out the students with their research, please contact Jeff.

Membership Report: Sean handed out a graph showing the type and number of active/non-active members. Currently we have 315 active members. Sean also handed a membership list to be passed on to Harry for this weekend’s picnic.

Archivist’s Report: Lee announced Historian copies would be available at this weekend’s picnic

Cemeterian Report: Jeremy reported the Day of Caring went well – additional clean up was accomplished. The DeMolay members will return in October for another Saturday of working at the Chanate Cemetery.
-Jeremy is in the process of researching the “who and when” of an unknown headstone found. Currently, he is trying to identify the time frame the stone was made by comparing it to old pictures of headstones from different periods of time.
-To help generate funds toward the replacement headstones, Jeremy presented his idea to have a pledge campaign of $100 sponsorship towards the headstones. His idea will be mentioned in the next Journal.
-Spoke to Sonoma County regarding the dedication of the Chanate Cemetery. October, 2008 is the target date.

Journal Report: Lee reported he is working on the cover story for the next issue: Stories from the Cazadero area titled “Tales of the Shamise Kid”. Also, Lee announced he was looking into possibly having a color cover for the next issue! He is in the process of researching the cost and picture quality.

Committee Reports:

Lecture Series: Jeremy will be contacting local hotels to set up accommodations for our guest speaker, Mr. Milliken. It was suggested he contact the Hotel LaRose in Railroad Square for its proximity and for its historical background.
Heritage Network Meeting: Next Meeting is Saturday, October 13, 2007. Location TBA. Tony will look into possibly having the meeting either at the Sonoma County Library (if available) or possibly at either the Sebastopol or Petaluma libraries. A reminder to all members will be sent out.

Ongoing Business:
 
September Fundraiser: Announced event is sold out with approximately 130 tickets sold. A waiting list has been created. To promote the upcoming lecture series, a small easel board with the lecture information will be placed at the check-in table. To identify board members, name tags will be available to wear. The Brainerd Jones Preservation Award will be given to the Gallo Family Vineyards and Kate MacMurray. Tony has had two plaques made up for the award.

Membership Secretary Situation – the board acknowledged and thanked Sean for taking over the membership duties. Thanks Sean!!!
 
New Business:  
-Evelyn McClure will be the new Secretary of the Heritage Network effective January, 2008.
 
-Tony announced the formation of the Cotati Historical Society. On Sunday, October 7th there will be tours available of historic downtown Cotati. Membership is $10.
 
-Sonoma County Museum’s exhibit titled “Obsessions” (private collections) will be opening this Saturday, September 22nd and will run through January 13, 2008.
 
-Dunbar School in Glen Ellen will be having a “Dunbar Day” Picnic from 11-3pm on Saturday, 10/13/07. If unable to make the picnic, a hoedown will be going on later in the day from 7pm-10pm.
 
-Jeff announced next years Historical Summer Walk has been moved to June 28th. He is still working on the locations in Sonoma County for the walk – more info at a later date.
 
Next Board Meeting: Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 7pm. Dinner meeting – Location TBA.
