Membership Report: Harry Lapham had a question regarding members’ names on all bank deposits and communication between the treasurer and membership chairman. Creighton reported that a membership printout will be created regularly, consisting of members’ names, current renewal information, date of renewal payments, and dates of deposits and deposit info.
Archivist’s Report: No archivist report
Cemeterian Report: Jeremy Nichols reported that the Sonoma County Hospital painting is almost ready, a couple more weeks. He is still looking for a frame if anyone has suggestions. Chanate Historic Cemetery now has 24 or so grave markers, three volunteers working. Tombstone Amnesty project is moving forward, very successful-- Tombstone Amnesty will return the Nettie Combs tombstone to the City of Santa Rosa at the council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 23. Additionally, Tombstone Amnesty website is now linked on SCHS website.
Journal Report: Simone reported in Lee’s place (again, he is vacationing in Finland)—she has been working with Lee on upcoming Historian. (SORRY, NOTES NOT CLEAR-- NAME BOB EVANS WAS BROUGHT UP AS POSSIBLE SPEAKER FOR NEXT YEAR’S ANNUAL LUNCHEON)
Tony Hoskins, President: Tony reported that the Friends of the Santa Rosa Library (F0SRL) now have available copies of the 1897 Birds’ eye-View map of Santa Rosa, each selling for $32.50; proceeds going to FOSRL. Could be advertised on the SCHS website and in the SCHS Historian?
Committee Reports:
Annual Picnic
The SCHS Annual Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 20th, at the Petaluma Adobe. Tony is making arrangements. Details and organization will be discussed at July meeting.
Website
Sean Bressie, Webmaster extraordinaire handed out “Hedgehog’s Webalizer Stats for the SCHS website; summarizes website activities/hits/visits month by month. Also, Sean and is working on including last six year of the SCHS Historian, complete with thumbnail covers and, later, text. Roberta raised question about access to “revised/edited” SCHS Board Meeting minutes. Minutes will be placed on the website. Roberta will contact Sean. It was suggested that the Santa Rosa Birds’ eye-View Map, created and marketed by the Friends of the Santa Rosa Library, be advertised on the SCHS website. Simone Wilson so moved, Tony Hoskins seconded. All in favor.
Old Business: Jeff Tobes announced that there were three entries from Helen Lehman School for the State History Day competition, held at the State Capitol in Sacramento; the group performance (Roman-Plebian History) made it to the finals. Jeff also discussed the 25-mile historic walk and dinner-dance up at Harry’s place—still need donations for paper plate, napkins, utensils, and volunteers to work. Question came up about SCHS instituting a cash prize for future History Day winners—will be discussed at June or July’s meeting.
New Business: John Schubert and others suggested ideas for future money-making publishing projects—collections of other “birds’ eye-view maps” throughout Sonoma County; Sonoma County scenes as note cards and/or calendars. Simone Wilson, Tony Hoskins and Jeremy Nichols agreed to form a committee to explore ideas regarding visual imagery of historic Sonoma County and possible sources of funding.
Harry Lapham reported on the Occidental Heritage group’s gathering at the Harmony School on April 29th, 2006. 100+ people attended a slide program and exhibit of 120 8 x 10 historic photographs. Additionally, a SCHS field trip is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, 2006, to San Francisco to explore the Mechanics Institute and California Historical Society. More info to come.
Guy Smith invited all board members to George Town on Sunday, June 11th, 2006, to attend the West County Museum’s annual meeting/potluck picnic. Contact Evelyn McClure at 829-1757.
Sonoma County Heritage Network will meet July 8th, 2006, 9:30 a.m., at the Sonoma County Museum.
Roberta Harlan reported that she will be on vacation from Wednesday, June 14th, through Saturday, June 24th—would someone please take over the minutes for the June 15th meeting?
Next Board Meeting: Thursday, June 15th, 7 p.m. at the Annex
Respectfully submitted by Roberta Harlan, faithful, but sometimes absent secretary
