Sawyers through the years

Dr. Fred Earl Sawyer, founder of Sawyer's News and great grandfather of Michael and John Sawyer. This was taken in front of the original store on 4th St. in San Rafael, in 1937, one year after it's founding. After a long career as dentist, Marin County Coroner, funeral home owner, Marin County Assessor/ Public Administrator, Marin County Farm Superintendant, and rancher, he decided he wanted to run this small newsstand in downtown San Rafael, and so he did. In 1945 he and his 4 children opened the store in Santa Rosa.

W. A. Bill Sawyer Senior, Michael and John Sawyer's grandfather. He became the sole owner after buying out his 2 brothers and sister. This was taken about 1950.

Michael and John Sawyer's Dad, W.A. Sawyer Jr. shown here, in front of the original Santa Rosa newsstand, then next to the old Burlington Bakery, just a few doors down from Corricks. Probably around 1950?

Proud owners, Michael and John Sawyer in front of their newly remodeled store at 733 4th St. in Santa Rosa. Summer of 1985
